Salud Mental Materna

Sabemos que 1 de cada 7 mujeres (1 de cada 10 padres) experimenta síntomas de depresión y ansiedad durante su etapa posparto. Los Trastornos del Estado de Ánimo Perinatal (PMD) durante el embarazo y dentro del primer año después del parto, pueden manifestarse en las personas de todas las edades, niveles de ingresos, raza y cultura.

En este episodio, me acompañan Karla Cardoza, LMFT, PMH-C  y Marianela Rodriguez, Ph.D., PMH-C para hablar mas sobre este importante tema e informar a las mamas de habla Hispana.

Comparten sobre el desarrollo de los programas de Postpartum Support International para la salud mental de la mama. Nos informan sobre el trastorno del estado de animo y ansiedad en la etapa perinatal, y los recursos disponibles en español.

También comparten lo importante que es que más profesionales en el campo medico obtengan la certificación para entender sobre la salud mental materna.

Maternal Mental Health

We know that 1 in 7 moms (1 in 10 dads) experience postpartum depression and anxiety. Perinatal Mental Mood Disorders can affect people of all ages, income, race and culture.

Karla Cardoza, LMFT, PMH-C and Marianela Rodriguez, Ph.D., PMH-C join me in this episode to talk about this important topic and inform Spanish speaking parents.

They discuss Postpartum Support International programs in support of maternal mental health, and share about perinatal mental mood disorders and where to find resources in Spanish.

They also share how crucial it is for more professionals in the medical field to become certified in perinatal mental health.

About Dra. Marianela Rodríguez Reynaldo

La Dra. Marianela Rodríguez Reynaldo es madre, educadora en lactancia y completó su doctorado en Psicología Clínica profesión que ejerce desde hace más de 20 años. Desde el 2009 se especializó en el área de trastornos emocionales durante la gestación, parto y posparto y ofrece servicios psicológicos especializados a nivel privado y comunitario. Es activista del parto humanizado y de la salud mental perinatal. Es miembro, coordinadora y facultad de la organización Postpartum Support International con quien ofrece adiestramiento a profesionales de la salud sobre los trastornos emocionales durante la etapa perinatal. Actualmente ejerce como consultora para la División de Madres, Niños y Adolescentes en el Departamento de Salud de Puerto Rico y ofrece servicios de psicología en el Centro de Estudios Materno Infantil (CEMI) del Recinto de Ciencias Médicas.

Dr. Marianela Rodríguez is a mother, certified lactation educator and Clinical Psychologist who has dedicated the past 15 years to the work of mental health and wellness during the perinatal period. She is a member of Postpartum Support International where she serves as the coordinator in Puerto Rico and a national trainer on PMADs. She currently works as a Mental Health Consultant for the Puerto Rico Department of Health in the Maternal-Infant and Adolescent Division where she can promote public health changes by sharing the outcomes of this project. She has worked with a diverse group of birth workers on island, several community-based programs that provide health care services and support to families in the perinatal, and is an activist for reproductive justice and human rights in maternal infant care.

About Karla Cardoza, LMFT, PMH-C

Karla Cardoza is Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Perinatal Mental Health provider with a small holistic therapeutic practice specializing in empowering adult women to embody wholesomeness and self-discovery. Her approach to her client’s awakening journey includes an integrative perspective honoring the mind, body, heart and spirit. She strives to provide a sacred and safe space for self-reflection, curiosity, shedding limiting beliefs, and developing sustainable wellness practice to move toward a more harmonious version of yourself. Karla’s postpartum care incorporates Mexican Traditional Medicine, trauma-informed yoga, pre and postnatal yoga, breathing, body movement, meditation, and Cacao ceremonies. Karla completed her Master’s degree at Pacific Oaks College with an emphasis in Latinx Family and Trauma Studies in 2016. She is a faculty with Postpartum Support International as well as the Spanish Helpline Manager and has appeared on Spanish-language television networks such as Telemundo.

Karla Cardoza es terapeuta matrimonial y familiar licenciada y proveedora certificada de salud mental perinatal con una pequeña consulta terapéutica holística especializada en acompañar a mujeres adultas para encarnar la plenitud y el autodescubrimiento. Su enfoque del viaje del despertar de sus clientes incluye una perspectiva integradora que honra la mente, el cuerpo, el corazón y el espíritu. Ella se esfuerza por proporcionar un espacio sagrado y seguro para la auto-reflexión, la curiosidad, la liberación de creencias limitantes, y el desarrollo de la práctica de bienestar sostenible para avanzar hacia una versión más armoniosa de ti mismo. El cuidado postparto de Karla incorpora Medicina Tradicional Mexicana, yoga informado por trauma, yoga pre y postnatal, respiración, movimiento corporal, meditación y ceremonias de Cacao. Karla completó su maestría en Pacific Oaks College con énfasis en Estudios de Trauma y Familia Latinx en 2016. Ella es una facultad con Postpartum Support International, así como el Gerente de la línea cálida de ayuda en español y ha aparecido en las redes de televisión en español como Telemundo.
